Raket 85 engine parts – a true legend in karting

Raket 85 is at least as legendary as the Raket 60 engine. Nearly all Finnish Formula 1 drivers have competed in the Raket 85 class during their early karting careers.

In the past, there were very few alternatives for drivers aged 8–12, which made the Raket 85 class extremely popular. Races had large grids and the level of competition was exceptionally high.

Single-brand engine classes have their advantages in karting. One major benefit is value retention – Raket engines have held their value well over the years. In multi-brand classes, engine homologation periods are typically around three years, after which values often drop significantly.

Today, Raket 85 engines are mainly used in hobby karting. Clutch kits are now available, making the engine smoother and more user-friendly to drive.

Availability of spare parts is more limited nowadays. For example, pistons are no longer available. However, in many cases the engine can still be restored to good working condition by replacing piston rings and servicing worn components.
